Zambian President Michael Sata has said that African countries have a mammoth task to solve problems affecting the continent with a focus on unemployment.

The President said this when United Nations General Assembly President Vuk Jeremić paid a courtesy call on him at the Sheraton Hotel in Addis Adaba, Ethiopia, on Monday.

He said that the issue of unemployment, which was not a serious problem before, had become a major obstacle hindering the development of the continent.

President Sata cited the high levels of unemployment as a major difficulty facing many African leaders, including himself, creating social unrest.

And United Nations (UN) General Assembly President Vuk Jeremić said there was need for affected countries to collaborate and work together in finding lasting solutions to the problems.

President Sata is in Ethiopia to attend the 20th African Union (AU) summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The theme of the Summit is “Pan-Africanism and African Renaissance”

Other African leaders that attended the summit were Uganda President Yoweri Museveni, Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe, Nigerian President Jonathan Goodluck, Kenyan President Paul Kagame, Namibian President Hifikepunye Pohamba and South African President Jacob Zuma among many others.
