Women’s league starts March 9

The congress of the Nigeria Women’s Football League has fixed Saturday, March 9 for the kick-off of the 2012/13 league season.

The congress, which met in Abuja on Thursday unanimously approved the relegation of two clubs – Cerezo Queens and Nito Queens – at the end of the 2011/12 season among other things.

The communique signed by Emmanuel Ziro informed that the congress equally approved the establishment of three league divisions comprising the Nigeria Women’s Premier Football League, the Nigeria Women’s Professional Football League Groups A and B as well as the Nigeria Women’s Amateur Football League from the 2013/14 season.

It also approved pending the final approval of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) executive committee for the establishment of an international club competition among West Africa and African Women’s Football Clubs just like is done for the men’s category namely Caf Champions League, Confederation Cup and Wafu Cup competitions.

Furthermore, it appealed to the corporate bodies to support the Nigeria Women’s Football League by participating in the league as sponsors.

The congress also approved the conditions for registration applicable to old clubs as proposed by the league board.
