Suspected Killers of Imo Deputy Governor’s Aide Arrested

Two suspected killers of the Director of Protocol to the Imo State Deputy Governor, Mr. Laz Anyanwu have been apprehended, as the deceased was buried Friday.

Briefing Journalists in Owerri Friday while parading the two suspects, the Public Relations Officer of the Imo State Police Command, Mr. Vitalis Onugu gave the names of the suspects as Udoka Ibe, 28 from Amaimo in Ikeduru Local Government Area and Chigaemezu Onyenwu, 27 from Orodo in Mbaitoli Local Government Area. They are all from Imo State.

Also Friday a bloody riot broke out when the villagers of the slain protocol officer learnt of the arrest where they burnt the properties of the alleged killers as well as bundled the father of one of the suspects into a bus and set it ablaze.

Onugu stated that the suspects, who had earlier confessed of carrying out the act, were arrested on January 24 after one of them was caught in Anambra by the Anambra State Police Command. He noted that immediately the incident happened on January 12, 2013 the Imo State Police Command sent out signals to other neighbouring commands.

According to him, the suspects affirmed that they abducted the deceased and in the process, he tried to over-power them and jumped out of the bus and that angered them to shoot him and decided to bury the corpse in a plantation at Orodo but being afraid the villagers, the dumped the body on the road.

He confirmed that three AK47 riffles, 247 ammunitions and 23 magazines were found with the suspects, noting that the suspects belong to a notorious gang of armed robbery and kidnap group as they had been in the wanted list of the Anambra state Police command.
The PPRO however, assured Imo people that the Command was not resting on their oars to deal ruthlessly with the men of the underworld.
