Governor Peter Obi said yesterday, Anambra State will achieve all the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by 2015 including healthcare delivery which he described as critical. He stated this yesterday while presenting three new vehicles to the new Anambra State Teaching Hospita,l Amaku, Awka and the College of Medicine of the state university at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia.

The vehicles include one 18-seater bus and an ambulance for the teaching hospital and another 18-seater bus for the Department of Community Medicine and Primary Healthcare of the state university .

Presenting the vehicles, Governor Obi said the donations were in fulfillment of the part requirements for accreditation of the teaching hospital and the college of medicine. Besides, he said the state government had provided other necessary facilities required for accreditation including putting up over 16 giant ultra-modern structures housing the college of medicine, laboratory, pathology, accident and emergency ward, pediatrics, female, male and special wards as well as consultant clinics, warehouses and hospital equipment.
Governor Obi said that his administration will complete and deliver ultra-modern health institutions the people will be proud to of, assuring that he will make them functional very soon.

The Commissioner for Health, Prof Amobi Ilika, thanked the governor for repositioning the health sector. He recalled that before Obi took over as governor, Anambra had no accredited hospitals and health institutions.
Prof Ilika said that besides building a teaching hospital for the state, Obi had also rebuilt 16 general hospitals and built some from the scratch such as General Hospital, Umuezeanam.
The commissioner explained that the governor recently gave the sum of three billion naira to health institutions owned by voluntary agencies because when these institutions deliver, the state’s health sector is working.
