Nollywood Actresses Storm Calabar With ‘New Horizon’

Calabar — Four popular Nigerian actresses including Kate Henshaw, Rita Dominic, Funke Akindele and Uche Jombo were in Calabar few days ago to emphasize the culture of non-violence against women through their new film, New Horizon.

Speaking to reporters in Calabar, leader of the team, Kate Henshaw said that the group wants to use what they have to achieve this laudable initiative of non-violence against women in a manner that will impact positively and drastically reduced the vice.

She said that “New Horizon” is a film targeted at domestic violence to portray these barbaric acts against women with the view to finding lasting solution to these menace.

While unveiling the plan, Kate Henshaw said the focus of the film is to curb domestic violence against women.

“A recent report has put between half and two third of Nigerian women at risk of domestic violence in their homes and that such violence include, domestic violence consisting of physical, sexual and psychological abuse”, she said.

The team observed that although violent tendency is present everywhere in the world, but African’s discriminatory laws and prevalent culture of silence and stigma on the victims of such violence continue to help to reduce the prominence of the problem in the society.

The group maintained that “New Horizon” is the story of triumph over womanhood, stressing that they feel a sense of accomplishment at the wrap of the film.

They reiterated their readiness to fast track a campaign in addition to the movie to protect the African women and indeed Nigerian woman from the menace of domestic violence.
