No fear of dynamite in Akwa

Akwa United skipper, Nnamso Edo, reckons they should not have any problems progressing to the last 16 of the Federation Cup at the expense of Dynamite Force when they meet this weekend in Port Harcourt.

The Uyo side survived a scare in the round of 60 when they could only edge out Zagbai on penalties, but Edo blamed the poor state of the pitch at the Emmanuel Atongo Stadium for their inability to win the match in regulation time, and believes there would be no escape for Dynamite Force when they meet on the artificial turf at the Liberation Stadium.

“I was delighted to hear the game against Dynamite would be played in Port Harcourt because there is synthetic turf at the Liberation Stadium,” he told SuperSport.com.

“I am promising our fans that on such a good surface, there wouldn’t be any suspense of penalty shootout again, as we should win within ninety minutes.

“We controlled the game against Zagbai, but the pitch was bumpy and it didn’t help since we’re used to keeping the ball on the ground.

“To their credit, they stuck to their match plan of packing their defence and succeeded in holding out, despite the relentless pressure we put on them.”

Edo told SuperSport.com that the draws have been fair to them so far and that they would have no excuse not to qualify for the next stage.

“The draws have been very kind to us and it will be very disappointing if we fail to make it to the round of 16,” he said.

“Without trying to sound arrogant, we’re already looking forward to the group stage and we’ll see how it goes from there.”
