Nigeria football federation president ‘accepts’ Keshi’s apology

President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Aminu Maigari has accepted an apology from Nigeria’s head coach Stephen Keshi, saying it is time for everyone to forge ahead.

“We have some crucial assignments ahead and so let’s put everything in the past,” said Maigari, in reference to the 2014 World Cup qualifier against Kenya next month and June’s FIFA Confederations Cup.

“We are all bound to make mistakes, no one is perfect. It’s good when one owns up to his mistakes. Keshi is a member of the Nigeria football family, he’s the coach of the Super Eagles,” the local Punch newspaper Wednesday quoted Maigari as saying.

Keshi issued the apology during a television programme on Monday night.

“If I did something that they (NFF) didn’t like, then I say I’m sorry. If I did hurt (Aminu) Maigari (NFF President) by my action, then I’m sorry,’ Keshi had said.

The simmering crisis between Keshi and the NFF during the Nations Cup exploded after the tournament when the coach suddenly announced his resignation. He later rescinded the decision.
