Nduka Ugbade, the assistant coach of the national U-17 team on Friday said that the nation’s cadet structure possessed the talents that could reposition Nigeria’s  football, if properly harnessed.

Ugbade told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos by phone that many of the players required the right kind of tutelage they develop their game.

“The country possesses the best set of budding players in the world. The cadet football scene in the country is fantastic.

“There are lots of talents in these academies and all they need is the right kind of exposure to develop their collective and individual style of play.

“We need to give them the right training and orientation because they have what it takes, which is the talent, and this can only be done by a good handler,” Ugbade said.

He stressed that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) needed to have a viable programme in place to groom the country’s next generation of footballers.

“The NFF should ensure that a well laid out programme is put in place to nurture these budding players so as not to allow their talents to waste.

“These youngsters should be exposed to the fundamentals of the game to make them well grounded in the tactical aspects of the game,” Ugbade said.
