Ahead commencement of the 2012/2013 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) season, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has reiterated its commitment to fulfill all financial obligation due the women league board. NFF president, Aminu Maigari stated this yesterday while declaring open the 2012 NWFL annual congress in Abuja.

Represented by the NFF director of competition, Muhammed Sanusi, he said 2013 will mark the beginning of women football growth in the country and urged the board and other stakeholders to unite for common goal. “Women football league has suffered a lot of setback in the past due to crisis. But this is the time to unite and work together for the purpose of achieving common goal. Henceforth NFF will fulfill its financial obligation for the women league,” he stated.

The chairperson of the Nigeria Women Football league (NWFL), Dilichukwu Onyedinma said despite the poor performance of the Super Falcons at the last edition of the Africa Women Championship (AWC) in Equatorial Guinea, women football has succeeded in projecting the country’s image positively to the outside world.

“It is on record that while it took the Super Eagles over 40 years to get to the FIFA World Cup, the Super Falcons participated in the very first edition of the FIFA Women World Cup. While the Super Eagles have won the Africa Nations Cup three times, the Super Falcons have won the Africa Women Nations Cup for six record times.
