NDDC begins six road projects in Imo

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) said it has commenced the construction of six road projects in Imo State; but concerns have risen over the nature of work on ongoing roads being handled by the commission.

The six new roads include: Osina Internal Roads in Ideato North Local Government Area; Umunakara Road in Nkwere; Amaudochukwu-Amachikere-Amaegbu Road and Umuhu-Okaba-Ihitenasia Road in Orsu local government areas of the state.

Others are: Amiyi Mission Road in Amiyi-Akah in Njaba LGA and Umunaka Road in Nkwere local government areas.

Christian Oboh, managing director of NDDC said at the flag-off of Osina internal roads in Ideato North LGA, that the commission was determined to spread development to all parts of the oil producing Niger Delta region.

He assured that the project would be well funded to ensure that it was completed on schedule.

Oboh was represented by Peter Ezeobi, representative of Imo State on the NDDC Board; charging the community leaders and youths to cooperate with the Commission’s contractors.

Ezeobi asked the community folks to come up with complaints should there be issues by the contractors: “If you have issues with the contractors don’t hesitate to inform the NDDC, because the present board of the Commission will not tolerate indolence or abandonment,” he said.

But Imolites are however questioning the Commission’s other uncompleted roads in the state; which include, Old Nekede-Akanchawa Road, with a bridge; Nworie River dredging along with access roads.

The projects are anything but good jobs, as the contractors handling them are more offsite than onsite; whereas the quality of job leaves much to be desired.
