Kenya: Police to Guard Isiolo Churches in New Year

ENTERTAINMENT joints, churches and other public places in Isiolo have been asked to beef up their security during the New Year festivities.

Isiolo county commissioner Wanyama Musiambo directed all lodges, hotels, bars and matatu operators to review their security arrangements.

Addressing the press in his office yesterday, Wanyama said police officers will be deployed in public areas, especially churches, to check on the security during the events.

He said adequate security measures have been put in place to ensure peaceful celebrations as Kenyans usher in the New Year.Wanyama asked business owners and church coordinators to screen members of the public before allowing them in.

The police have availed hotline numbers through which the residents can use to contact them in case of emergencies and to report suspicious characters.

The police will provide security to herders in grazing zones to check on cattle rustlers who have in the past taken advantage of the festivities to raid villages.

Wanyama said all security officers, including DCs and DOs, will be on duty to coordinate and manage the operations.Security was beefed up in the district during the Christmas festivities.
