Kenya: Odinga Leads Kenyatta in Close Poll

| January 27, 2013 | 0 Comments

Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga is leading the race for the country’s top office, followed by his rival Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta, according to an opinion poll released by Ipsos Synovate on Friday (January 25th).

Odinga’s Coalition for Reforms and Democracy is leading the polls with a 46% approval rating, followed by Kenyatta’s Jubilee Coalition with 40%, Kenya’s Daily Nation reported. Ipsos Synovate surveyed 5,895 registered voters in 47 counties between January 12th and 20th.

The close race indicates a possible runoff election, since candidates need 51% of the total votes to win the presidency.

Musalia Mudavadi’s Amani Coalition received a 5% approval rating, with Martha Karua of Narc Kenya and Peter Kenneth of the Kenya National Congress each receiving 1%.

Five percent of voters said they were undecided.
