Your Excellency:

Allow me, Your Excellency, to present the compliments of my Head of State and the people of the United States of America to you personally and through you to the people of Kenya.

I am delighted to be back in Kenya and bring greetings to you from President Obama.

For five decades, Kenya and the United States have had a strong and reliable partnership. The U.S. government values this partnership and sees Kenya as a positive and constructive leader in Africa and the world. Against this backdrop, I look forward to leading U.S. diplomatic efforts in Kenya during this important period of your country’s history.

Your Excellency, you and the Prime Minister are to be congratulated on the successes of the coalition government, including the adoption of a new, progressive constitution and the steps taken to implement it. I look forward to continuing the U.S. Embassy’s assistance to the government and people of Kenya as you work to ensure a free, fair, peaceful and credible election next month, which will be a milestone in the country’s 50th year of independence.

Further, as I told the Senate Foreign Relations Committee at my confirmation hearing, I will work to support the Government of Kenya as it seeks to implement its constitution, devolve power to county governments, accelerate economic growth and development, improve environmental protection, combat HIV/AIDS, secure its borders, protect its citizens, and care for those seeking refuge.

I will also seek to assist Americans living and traveling in Kenya. And I will work with Americans and Kenyans to find ways to strengthen further the critically important economic, commercial and cultural ties between our countries.

I look forward to working with you, the Prime Minister, and your government in the days remaining in your terms of office to promote an even stronger common understanding between our countries and our citizens.

It is my earnest hope that I shall succeed in my endeavors to promote further the long-standing, broad and deep friendship that exists between our two countries.

I now have the honor to present to your Excellency the letter of Recall of my Predecessor and my Credentials by which President Barack Obama has appointed me to be the next Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America, to the Republic of Kenya.

Robert F. Godec

His Excellency the Honorable

Mwai Kibaki, C.G.H., M.P.

President of the Republic of Kenya

Office of the President
