Kenya: Jirongo, Wamalwa Coalition Collapses

Nairobi — The Pambazuka Coalition was on Saturday terminated after accusations that New Ford Kenya had failed to honour the agreement that brought them together.

Cyrus Jirongo’s Federal Party of Kenya, Nicholas Biwott’s Vision Party of Kenya and Shirikisho party had signed the Pambazuka pre-election pact earlier in the month with Eugene Wamalwa’s New Ford Kenya.

Vision Party vice chairperson Benta Opande said the three parties had already informed the Registrar of Political Parties of their pullout, after New Ford Kenya started consulting with other political groupings and dishonouring the agreement of the coalition.

“The reasons quoted by all three parties were failure of New Ford Kenya to behave honourably within the coalition and failure to consult its coalition partners with regard to dealings with other political outfits,” Opande told Journalists at a press conference.

She said they are aggrieved after Wamalwa started political engagements with the Kenya National Congress (KNC) presidential candidate Peter Kenneth without their knowledge.

However Kenneth has on his part denied this and insisted that there has been no discussion between him and New Ford Kenya’s party leader.

“In the last two weeks, Kenyans have watched as New Ford Kenya and its leadership led by Hon Eugene Wamalwa engaging in disgraceful political summersaults while pretending to speak for the Pambazuka movement,” Opande added.

They claim Wamalwa had hidden plans to force himself to be the flag bearer of the now collapsed coalition.

“All attempts to get New Ford Kenya to change this juvenile and non serious approach to national politics have failed. We are left with no alternative but to officially disassociate ourselves from Pambazuka which is quickly being turned into a national joke,” said Opande.

The three parties now plan to hold a National Delegates Conference in January and decide the way forward.
