Kenya: Cord Coalition, Jubilee Alliance Trade Accusations

| March 2, 2013 | 0 Comments

The CORD coalition has issued statement condemning the circulation of threatening leaflets that are warning some communities to vacate certain areas.

The CORD coalition is urging its supporters not to leave their homes following the circulation of leaflets warning of violence. The alliance sees this as a plot aimed at scaring away voters and want the police to bring those responsible to book.

Two suspects were earlier today arrested in connection with the distribution and printing of hate leaflets in Nairobi. One of the suspects was apprehended at a printing firm along River road while the other was arrested in the Kilimani area.

The Jubilee alliance is also blaming a section of CORD supporters for misleading their supporters into spoiling ballots. “The messages on social media have been encouraging those voting for the Jubilee alliance presidential candidate into putting a cross alongside the name of his rival from the CORD alliance, thereby spoiling the votes.” the statement reads.

The Jubilee alliance has contacted the IEBC asking them to take action against those responsible and have also called on the CORD presidential candidate Raila Odinga to make a statement on the same.
