Imo APGA alleges plot to impeach Okorocha

AS political tension builds in Imo State, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has accused some members of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the National Assembly of plotting to unseat Governor Rochas Okorocha.

According to APGA, the persons include the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chief Emeka Nkem Ihedioha, Chairman of Senate Committee on Aviation, Chief Hope Uzodinma, Imo State PDP Chairman, Chief Eze Duruiheoma, and the immediate past chairman of the Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers, Eze Cletus Ilomuanya, who were alleged to plot that move with N3 billion.

But in a swift reaction, the state PDP Chairman, Duruiheoma, dismissed the allegation, saying he does not believe in removing anybody by impeachment, stressing that they were only working to regain power in the state in 2015.

In a statement in Owerri at the weekend by the Imo APGA Chairman, Prince Marshal Okafor-Anyanwu, which was made available to The Guardian, the party accused the persons listed above of inviting officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), leading to the arrest last week of the Commissioner for Finance, Mr. John Chike Okafor, and the Accountant General, Mr. George Eche.

APGA also accused the four of planning to give each of the 27 members of the House of Assembly N100 million to carry out the impeachment. Both Ihedioha and Uzodinma are members of the PDP in Imo State.

Reacting further on the APGA chairman’s allegation, Duruiheoma said: “It is an old story. It is simply laughable. There must be something you look up for as your gain.

“What will be my gain? There is no gain in it. If the allegation is working hard to make sure 2015 is victory, yes. I don’t believe in impeachment. It is destabilising.”
