Ihejirika Tasks Eagles to Retain Afcon Trophy

The Chief of Army Staff, Liutenanat General Onyeabo Ihejirika yesterday charged the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to redouble their efforts to ensure that the Super Eagles retain the Africa Cup of Nations trophy won in South Africa at the 2015 edition in Morocco.

Giving the charge when the Federation presented the trophy to him at the Army Headquarters in Abuja, Ihejirika noted that the victory in South Africa was as a result of team work, and charged the federation, players and coaches to continue to work as a team to bring more laurels to the country.

He noted that during the African soccer show, he discovered in the Super Eagles team a lot of talented players, and believes that if the players, coaches and administrators contionue to work as team, more trophies will be won by the country.

“I commend the NFF for coping with the avalanche of suggedstions from Nigerians, and this is because Nigerians love football and every Nigerian is an expert in football matters.

“I congratulate Nigeria as a nation, the NFF, the coaches, players and the behind the scene officials who worked for this success, because I know that the Nations Cup victory was as a result of team work. So, I urge you to continue to work together so that more trophies will be won”, Ihejirika said.

Earlier, NFF President Aminu Maigari called for prayers from Nigerians to enable the Flying Eagles and the Golden Eaglets who will soon begin the campaign for honours in the African Championship to also win in their respective competitions.
