I Take My Exclusion From 2013 Afcon in Good Faith – Nsofor

Abuja — Obinna Nsofor, the Super Eagles’ out of favour striker on Monday said he took his exclusion from the 2013 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament with good faith. Nsofor was at the secretariat of the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) in Abuja for an undisclosed mission.

He, however, told NAN that he was depressed with the news of his exclusion from the AFCON squad, but added that he was gradually getting over it. “Emotionally, I felt it when I saw that I did not make the list but I took it in good faith because I love my country and most of them in the team are my friends; we do things together.

“As a Nigerian you want the best for your country and when you don’t have the opportunity to do that, it’s usually disheartening. I want the best for the Super Eagles. “However, I am not surprised my name was not on the list because I have not played with the team for almost a year, not even in the friendly matches,” Nsofor said.

The Lokomotiv FC of Moscow striker dismissed suggestion in some quarters that his move to the Russian league had contributed to his exclusion by the Stephen Keshi-led technical crew of the Super Eagles. ” Football is a general thing. Like we all know, Nigerians prefer the English Premier League (EPL) to any other in the world.

“Many fans here have their supporters in Nigeria but in Russia there are few of us playing at the moment. “Nigerians focus more on their players in EPL because of their love for one club or the other; that’s football for you but that does not mean I am not doing well for my club.”

Nsofor said that he had trust in the ability of Keshi and the invited players to win the 2013 AFCON for Nigeria. The former West Ham United FC of England player maintained that his time would come, noting that the country still had FIFA 2014 World Cup qualifiers to play. (NAN)
