Gara Gombe says corruption has destroyed Nigeria football, salutes ICPC probe

Former Gombe State Football Association chairman Gara Gombe has commended anti-graft agency ICPC for embarking on a massive probe of top NFF officials, saying corruption in the football federation has destroyed the national sport.

The anti-graft agency is investigating senior NFF officials led
by president Amaju Pinnick.

“This probe is long overdue,” said Gombe.

“This is what we need, this is what we have been looking for in our
sport.

“These people have been destroying our football by slicing into their personal pockets money meant for the development of our football.

“The facts are clear – four, five years ago these guys were
nobodies. But since then they have amassed so much wealth to buy all those
properties.

“They now have so much money to even suppress and compromise
officials.”

Gombe dismissed claim by the accused officials that this is yet
another witch hunt against them.

“It is them who have witch hunted our treasury, witch hunted
funds meant for football development,” he blasted.

He also commended the ICPC for having the courage to take on
these officials.

“We all need to support the new leadership of the ICPC. We
should provide them with relevant information, encourage them and hope other
such agencies follow suit,” he urged.

“I also don’t think that any sensible government official who
really knows what he is doing and is interested in his own career will have
anything to do with these guys.

“Justice must prevail no matter how long. The truth will rise no
matter how hard you try to suppress it and the time is now.”
