Ahead of the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup in China, D’Tigers striker Jordan Nwora is confident they would make it past the group stage, but also admitted that it won’t be an easy task.

Nigeria who will negotiate its way past South America giant Argentina, Russia and Asian side South Korea in the group stage are one of the five African representatives at the tournament.

“All these teams are very good, our group is a very tough group. But I am confident, and I know that the coaching staff will get us ready for the games.

”I think that Angola, Tunisia, Senegal, Cote d’Ivoire as well as Nigeria will represent Africa well.”

The 20-year-old striker also hopes the coaches pick a good team.

“I hope that the coaching staff will be able to assemble the best team – one that Nigeria can be proud of. Our goal is to be one of the countries on the medal podium at the end of the tournament.”

After posting an outstanding performance during the FIBA Basketball World Cup qualifiers, where he set a tournament best point with his 36 points against Mali, the Louisville Cardinals player feels honoured to be representing the West Africa nation at the tournament.

“It’s always an honor to be able to represent a country in the World Cup, which is one of the biggest competitions in basketball. I’m proud and grateful to be able to represent Nigeria,” Nwora concluded.
