Falconets won’t disappoint Nigerians, Ogun first lady assures
The leader of the Nigeria delegation to Zimbabwe for the FIFA Under 20 Women’s World Cup qualifier between the Falconets of Nigeria and the Young Mighty Warriors of Zimbabwe and the first lady of Ogun State, Mrs. Olufunso Amosun has assured Nigerians that the Falconets will not disappoint them in Harare.
Mrs Amosun, who led a powerful Nigeria delegation to the Zimbabwean capital Friday night for Sunday’s second leg, second round clash, according to a statement by the Press Officer, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Rotimi Oduniyi, said the girls have been toughened to withstand any pressure from their opponents.
The Ogun first lady said all efforts have been made by the Nigeria Football Federation and other female soccer-loving Nigerians to further encourage the girls out there in Harare so that they can give their best.
Although not wanting to predict the result of the match, Amosun said the Falconets will beat their hosts convincingly.
She however decried the insinuations of the Zimbabwean delegation on the first leg a fortnight ago in Abeokuta that they were not properly hosted, describing it as unfair and uncharitable.
Amosun said aside from a first–class reception of the contingent at the airport by the protocol officers from the state ministry of youth and sports and the Nigeria Football Federation, the entire Zimbabwe contingent were lodged at the impressive Laroy Suites in Abeokuta from where they toured all the important places in the rock-city and bought several bundles of the popular tie and dye fabric in the city’s popular market. She therefore called their complaint as diversionary and said no matter their antics, the Nigerian girls will come out victorious in Harare.
Amosun therefore used the opportunity to state that Ogun State has always been a perfect host and will not relent in her efforts at showing her best whenever called upon to assist the Nigeria Football Federation and the Nigerian nation.
