Egypt: Morsi Says Considering Election Date Change

President Mohamed Morsi said that he is considering changing the starting date of parliamentary elections after Coptic Christians complained it falls on a religious holiday.

Morsi made the remark during the inauguration of the first Egyptian forum for foreign policy on Saturday 23/02/2013.

Coordination is underway with the relevant authorities to set new dates for the parliamentary elections and a presidential decree in this respect will be issued within hours, Presidential Assistant Pakinam el-Sharqawi told MENA on Saturday.

For his part, Shura Council Speaker Ahmed Fahmy said that President Morsi has answered calls by Christian Shura Council members and changed the date of parliamentary elections. A presidential decree is expected soon with the details, he said.
