EFCC invites Soludo

…2015 Presidency, Anambra governorship elections this year linked

Soludo

Information reaching Daily Times say former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor Chukwuma Soludo was today invited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to render explanations on issues around printing of Nigerian currency by an Australian printing company while he was in office.

While the EFCC spokesman’s phone line was not available when Daily Times tried to contact him, attempt to reach Soludo also failed as his mobile line said network was over crowded.

But an Abuja based lawyer Chukwudi Nzeakolam who reacted on the speculations said EFCC’s invitation of Soludo if true, smacks of political intimidation and therefore in bad blood. He said the present government is acting in the same manner its predecessors hunted perceived enemies or critics who disagreed with their leadership style.

“If it is true that EFCC invited Soludo to their office a few months to the Governorship election in Anambra State, that would be quite unfortunate. Soludo left office five years ago in 2009. Why is it now that you are inviting him to explain on printing of currency, what happened all these years,” the lawyer questioned.

He said Soludo has been making positive contributions on the Nigerian economy through his column in Thisday Newspaper which some people in government are not comfortable with, in addition to the fact that the former CBN governor is said to have sympathy with rotation of presidency which the present government was not happy with.

“They have been plotting to intimidate him both from Abuja and from his home state Anambra because of the coming governorship election in the state. even though he has not declared interest in the contest, there are speculations that he would contest the election. These are some of the reasons why they are trying to rubbish his name so that they will make him look like a criminal. That is quite unfortunate and very retrogressive,” the lawyer said.
