Don’t Be Disappointed With Nigeria/Cape Verde Friendly – NFA

Musa Amadu, the Secretary-General of the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) has appealed to Nigerians not to feel disappointed with the Super Eagles’ performance in the friendly match against Cape Verde.

Amadu made the appeal on Thursday in Abuja in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). The match, which was held in Faro, Portugal, ended goalless.

The encounter was part of both countries’ build-up to the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Amadu, who was reacting to the outcome of the match, however, said the Eagles Head Coach, Stephen Keshi, was being careful to avoid injury ahead of the AFCON.

“The coach was able to play a number of foreign based players that did not play in the Catalonia game. “Austin Ejide, Vincent Enyeama, Mikel Obi, Victor Moses were all injected into the Cape Verde game.

“I know both teams use the match to prepare themselves and of course in some matches you don’t bring out your full arsenal.’’

According to him, “you also play safe to avoid injury, so, it was a good game and I am sure the coaches must have gotten the input they wanted from the game”.

The NFA scribe praised the Eagles’ performance in the encounter, noting that Cape Verde had been able to cause some upset in football.

Amadu said another friendly encounter had been arranged for the Eagles on Jan. 12 in Faro, against Sparta Rotterdam FC of Netherlands, to enhance the team’s preparation for the tournament.

“This is the same team that ousted Cameroon from the 2013 AFCON. They also played goalless with Ghana in their previous build-up.

“I know that come Jan. 19 in the opening match of the AFCON between Cape Verde and South Africa, Nigerians will begin to see that Cape Verde is a strong team,” he added.
