Night life that came back to Port Harcourt, River State with the coming on board of the administration of Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi in 2007is being threatened by the renewed clashes by suspected cult groups in the state capital.

LEADERSHIP SUNDAY observed that residents of Old Port Harcourt Township now sleep with fear following the spate of killings and sporadic gun-shots being experienced in that axis of the metropolis.

No fewer than nine persons, including two policemen have been killed in controversial circumstances in different parts of the town by gunmen suspected to be cultists between December 2012 and January 20, 2013.

Worst hit areas in the Old Port Harcourt Town include; Creek Road, Bonny Street, Habour Road, Station, and Reclamation Road.

LEADERSHIP SUNDAY learnt that the situation has adversely affected night life and other businesses in the areas as these dastardly acts are perpetrated at nights when their unsuspecting victims are cooling off in drinking bars and other relaxations centres.

On December 27, 2012, no fewer four persons were killed at a relaxation spot along Bonny Street while on January 14, 2013, six persons, including two policemen were killed along Harbour Road in the area.

The policemen were said to be relaxing at a drinking spot along the road when the gunmen stormed the area and opened fire on them and four others who were riding in a Toyota Camry saloon car.
