Cross Rivers APC: Minister’s Ambition Not Behind Party Crisis – Aide

| January 11, 2019 | 0 Comments

Chieftain of the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) and an aide to the Minister of Niger Delta, Mr Sam Bassey has absolved the Minister, Mr Usani Uguru Usani, from being the reason for the crisis bedevilling the party in Cross Rivers state.

Bassey further debunked speculations that Usani’s political ambition is responsible for the crisis even as he stated that it is the desire of all stakeholder of APC in the state to see that the Party produces the next governor in 2019.

Speaking to newsmen at the APC national secretariat in Abuja, Bassey added that his desire like every other committed members of the party in Cross River was to ensure that it was up and doing and without rancor in the state.

He said ´´We are all anxious to have the party moving, it is not about anybody, but about APC in Cross River, if anybody is interested in contesting election, he must have a platform,´´

According to him, with Mr John Ochalla as acting chairman of the party in Cross River, the party had no platform in the state even as he added that the acting chairman had ´´ a phobia for meeting´´ and was not carrying members along.

He stressed that a politician who had phobia for meetings had no place in politics, stressing that the APC Cross River needed a vibrant chairman to achieve its desire of winning the state in 2019 election.

´´ We want to win election in Cross River and we need somebody the can stand out and lead the party in the office of chairman to get us to victory,´´ he said.

While admitting that the Cross River chapter of the party had crisis, said the crisis had been put to rest.

This, he said, followed the election of Mr Etim John as the state´s new chairman at the party´s just concluded congress election.

According to him, John won the election with 56 votes while his opponent Mathew Achigbe got 36 votes.
He alleged the since his appointment, the Cross River chapter of the APC had been without an effective chairman and was dying.

It could be recalled that the APC National Working Committee (NWC) took the decision to organise a congress in the state after getting the buy-in of major stakeholders.

This followed the suspension of Mr John Ochalla, the state´s former chairman amid lingering crisis in the chapter.

The crisis in the chapter it would be recalled, led to forceful occupation of the party’s secretariat in Calabar by some members, who allegedly broke into the building and vandalised it.
The “aggrieved’’ members had claimed that there was a change in the leadership of the executive committee of the party in the state.

National Publicity Secretary of the party, Malam Bolaji Abudullahi, had while reacting to the development, said that the perpetrators of the act would be investigated and prosecuted.

He had condemned the development as “gross indiscipline’’, which had caused undue disaffection among party faithful in the state.
