Agencies list accident, fire cases in Edo, Imo

THE Zone Five of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), comprising Edo, Delta and Anambra states, Thursday said that Edo State recorded the highest number of deaths in the zone in the last two years.

Also, about 110 fire incidences occurred last year in Imo State, the state Director of Fire Service, Donatus Okeoma, has disclosed. The FRSC Zonal Commander, Wole Olaniram, disclosed in a chat with journalists that between January and November 2011, Edo recorded 510 road crashes with 289 deaths, while 1,219 vehicles were involved.

Speaking to journalists on the recent cases of fire outbreak in some parts of Imo, Okeoma attributed the inferno largely to human error, urging people to always put off their electrical gadgets in their homes before moving out for business or before leaving their offices for the day.

He said the ugly incidences occurred in different degrees, while property worth several millions of naira were destroyed.
