As part of his efforts to empower youths in Ifako/Ijaiye Federal Constituency, a member of the Federal House of Representatives, Yomi Ogunnusi has bankrolled a yearly football tourney in Lagos with 32 teams taking part.

The competition, which kicked off recently at Agege Stadium is part of the promises made by the lawmaker to engage youths of the constituency. Speaking during the kick-off of the tournament, Chairman of Ifako-Ijaiye Local Council, Apostle Oloruntoba Oke, lauded the sponsor, saying the gesture would help to keep the youths of the area busy.

Oke, who represented Ogunnusi at the event said: “We all saw what the Super Eagles did at the Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa and the rewards that followed the feat. A tournament like this will help discover soccer skill in our youths. This will also help to compliment the vision of Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola on sports in the state.”

The preliminaries matches have commenced with the teams drawn into groups while the top two teams progress to the knockout stage. Agege Stadium will host the final match on 20 April, which also coincides with the birthday celebration of the sponsor, Ogunnusi.
